Most of the comments and stories I’ve seen on here are just blind hate towards white people, it is as ignorant for those on this website to hate whites for the actions of some as it is for some whites to hate minorities for the actions of their respective racial groups.
The only thing I gather from this website is that there is a lot of blind hate toward whites for little reasoning, while I would agree the old school mindset held by the older generations is that of blind racism, the majority of people today don’t grow up blindly hating those who are not like them. Take me for example, I just go around the internet pissing people off to see the reaction I get out of them, there is little meaning behind what I say but I love pissing people off.
And by the way, I wouldn’t go so far as to say the internet was ‘invented’ by the Army, though they played a big part in it, CERN and the development of tcp/ip as well as html were the what really developed the internet as it is today.
Sidenote- I don’t play online video games nor do I play many video games in general, about the most I play is a few games of NFL Blitz Pro on Xbox with a few friends.

Hate to break it to you, but you cant get any personal info from an ip address. All you can get is the owner of the ip (the school), and the location of the isp which is usually miles away.

In essence, you’re wrong. Again, this was invented by the Army. The IP is a lot more useful than you think. This all depends on what you are looking for; DNS, SMB, or NIS. If you really wanted to you could use any of the following plus the MAC address (also logged) to trace it back to the EXACT computer. Please believe more than what you read in someone’s tech blog, and don’t be so quick to jump down the other person’s throat thinking you know anything about the internet protocol.

Yeah Elevent on the case. You can get lots of information from an IP. If you using your computer at home and I catch your IP, I can get lots of info. Think about it. The government can go and catch people looking at child porn just by snatching they IP address. Then Elevent right about the MAC address. If your MAC address is gotten then that’s it, we know your computer and where it at for sure.

Shit aint so safe people. It’s scary how information can be found, obtained, and used. If everyone knew how easy it was to get this shit no one would use the internet anymore.

Elevent, you are partly right in saying what you can find out from someones ip address, but it still doesnt allow you to find much personal info on the person unless the idiot was using his personal home network. While in some cases you are able to track down the computer that sent it, that is usually not very helpful unless you have law enforcement intervene and work with the isp. The physical address of the computer on the network is nearly impossible to find if it is on a network with a large number of computers connected. That is where both Aaron and Eam went wrong, they said that the GOVERNMENT can catch people looking at CP by getting their ip address and LAW ENFORCEMENT can catch the creator of a virus just from their MAC address. Both of these generally require going through the isp to actually find the person, while law enforcement can subpoena for the records and information, the average person has no way of doing this.
As for the internet being invented, the internet itself was created developed itself by Arpanet as a readiness system for the US military, but the web as it is was developed at CERN and much credit can go to Tim Berners-Lee. So all of you are missing information. The internet as it is cannot be defined as being invented by one group or person (like Al Gore), it is the synthesis of many technologies developed over a long period of time which are together what we consider the internet.

Sorry, but ARPANET was actually the original name of the network. If you really want to get into the details, a guy from Stanford and another guy from BB&N set up the first “internet”. As far as Time Berners-Lee goes, he came in much later (1991). ARPANET was in 1969, set up by the DoD. Enough said.

Elevent’s right it’s the same thing. As for not being able to trace an IP right to the owner without going through the ISP. I know a white mother fucker in Belgium and he coded 2 programs to help with that shit. We tracked down a hacking mother fucker from a message board and gave all the information over to the feds. Don’t know what happened with the mother fucker but I know he got caught for it for sure. And no I aint got the programs. That stingy fucker wouldn’t give them to me for good reason.

just wanna respond to The truth about “Internet Tough Guys”. Well, given that I’m A. one angry black network security professional, and B. been thru some nasty hacking in my day, i could tell you a few things that one could do:

With that IP address, its the gateway in which that given segment connects to the Internet. With a properly placed SNMP trap in place on the routers that well… route to this site (and the logs) would could RARP that and get the MAC address. With that information… and since white folk seem to think they secure as a mother fucker cause they got that new iMacwhatever the fuck, you can find out what private IP address that MAC uses. With that private IP address you can determine the subnet for it, which … we all know, places are broken up into subnets. With THAT information given, and a little bit of those “skills” you can get into the core switch, and find out which port the user is on. Those usually have comments associated with them in the router’s configuration. And… well, with that port, it denotes the physical port on the wall where he blogged it from. And yeah.. there you go, round em them Dominicans.

And if he was wireless, even easier.
