All jokes aside, my brotha, I feel you on the “wrapped up our culture and sold it back to us” tip. This is something I’ve been tormented by for a very long time now, and it’s comforting and reassuring to know that some one else out there sees this too.

The truth of the matter is that, like James Baldwin says, white people invented “niggers” because they needed them. Niggers were needed by them so that they could feel superior. On the other hand, we submitted to *being* their niggers, so we were just as guilty. Blacks in turn made the a move I don’t think any other group in the history of civilization has done before. We took this term and made it ours. We took their invention of us and warped it into a sense of pride.

Then, somewhere during the big hip hop boom during the 80’s and 90’s, whites bought back that term and commercialized it. What we have now is yet another minstrel show, with a bunch of low self-esteem having clowns performing for peanuts (they call it “money”, “fame”, and so on), raping the very culture that birthed them with the weapons of the oppressors. “Nigga” has quickly gone from a symbol of pride (see Tupac) to a joke.

To be honest, my brotha, I might joke around once in a while and use the word, but when I listen very hard to people I admire, such as James Baldwin, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Angela Davis, and so many other people who never considered themselves niggas, yet were far more proud of being black than anyone in the entire commercial hip hop in-du-stry (nice switch, by the way), I feel a great and dire sense of shame when I see that, yes, this is exactly where white people want me to be. They want me to consider myself a nigga. They want me to be *proud* of being a nigga, and not only that…they want me to be angry if anyone *calls* me a nigga…except another nigga.

I’ve grown a lot these past few years, and I admit that I still have a lot of growing to do. to make blogs like this is fucking great…it’s timeless. the number of people that have ventured through here with comments in the last week is eye opening. but HOW MANY of these people really and truely are about making a difference and not to mention how many people are just SEEING the superficial aspect of the blog (((the tight jeans and faux-rock encrusted belts)))? are these the same mutherfukkers that go home and whimper about how unfair life is…then comment on some blog and hop, skip and jump right back into keeping up with the Jones’?

we, as a society, need to evaluate ourselves FIRST and FOREMOST. the real changes will come when lifestyles are changed.

It goes a little sumpin like this right here. There are plenty of people who read the blog complain and go home and live like nothing is wrong. Yet half of them be doin this type of behavior because they don’t know what to do to change things.

I myself talk this shit all the time, and get myself into trouble at times for it. It don’t matter aint no mother fucker killed me yet. So all I got to say is this. When shit ready to change, it will. We just gots ta do our part to be ready. Until then it’s just time to get ready for change. Teach your kids right, they will still learn what they have to learn. As long as you do shit right, they should be fine.
